Authentic Okinawan Classical Weapons Training
on the East & West Coasts
Ryukyu Kobujutsu is a classical Okinawan martial art centred on ancient weapons (kobudo), preserving the rich traditions of the Ryukyu Islands. Passed down through masters such as Shinken Taira and Grand Master Motokatsu Inoue (Gansho Inoue), it emphasises technical precision, mental discipline, physical strength, and the deep historical and cultural roots of Bujutsu.
In Australia, we proudly represent the Ryukyu Kobujutsu Hozon Shinkokai (RKHSK), under President Kisho Inoue Hanshi.

Fully connected to the global RKHSK network.
Our curriculum follows the official RKHSK syllabus, including its core weapons: Bo (staff), Sai, Tonfa, Nunchaku, Kama, Tekko, Surujin, Tinbe and Eku (oar), encompassing 42 traditional kata preserved by Sensei's Taira Shinken and Motokatsu Inoue.
In addition the Kihon (basics), Kumite (paired practice), and Bunkai (practical application) developed by Sensei's Taira Shinken, Inoue Motokatsu and Fujita Seiko are taught and preserved.
Training nurtures not only technical skill but also focus, resilience, and genuine respect for tradition.
Grading is progressive from beginner to Dan ranks, with official registration in Japan.
We value direct lineage, coast-to-coast consistency through dedicated Shibucho, structured progression with regular seminars, and connection to the wider RKHSK family across 20+ countries.
We uphold the classical standards of the Inoue lineage while maintaining a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. This is a place for thoughtful, sincere practice guided by Bun Bu Ryodo — the way of the warrior-scholar.
Yuishinkai Karate, also founded by Motokatsu Inoue, complements Ryukyu Kobujutsu perfectly. The two arts reinforce each other — weapons training deepens open-hand understanding, and karate principles enhance weapons mastery.
If the spirit of Ryukyu Kobujutsu and its connection with Yuishinkai resonates with you, we would be delighted to hear from you.
